For my final project, I chose Apple because it’s a company I already know and trust. Between my iPhone, AirPods, and everything else that somehow ends up connected to my phone, Apple has become part of my everyday life. As an active-duty member of the U.S. Navy and a mom of two little boys, I appreciate products that make life easier instead of more complicated. Let’s be honest—parenting is already enough of a full-time job without having to learn another confusing app.
Apple has built a reputation for creating products that are innovative, reliable, and easy to use. People expect Apple products to work together seamlessly, and they also expect a high level of quality and security. Because parents trust Apple with so much of their personal information already, I think many would be open to a product that helps keep their children safe.
The product I would propose is the Apple Baby Band, a lightweight smart ankle band designed for infants and toddlers. It would securely fit around a child’s ankle and sync directly with the Apple Health app and an iPhone. The Baby Band would include GPS location tracking, sleep monitoring, body temperature alerts, activity tracking, waterproof protection, and customizable geofencing so parents receive an alert if their child wanders outside a designated safe area.
The inspiration for this idea comes from my own life. My oldest son is at the age where he thinks running away in public is an Olympic sport, and my youngest keeps me just as busy. As a military mom, I know firsthand how valuable peace of mind can be when you’re juggling work, appointments, daycare, and everything else life throws at you. If there were a product that helped me know my kids were safe while also tracking helpful health information, I would absolutely consider buying it.
The target audience would be parents between the ages of 25 and 45 who already use Apple products and have young children. Many parents today rely on technology to simplify everyday tasks, and they are looking for products that save time, improve safety, and reduce stress. I believe there is an unmet need for a wearable device specifically designed for infants and toddlers rather than older children.
The main research objectives would be to determine whether parents would purchase the Apple Baby Band, identify which features matter most, understand what price consumers would consider reasonable, and evaluate whether parents trust Apple to handle their children’s health and location data responsibly. The research would also explore how parents currently monitor their children and what improvements they would like to see in existing products.
To answer these questions, I would use both secondary and primary research. Secondary research would include industry reports, wearable technology trends, competitor analysis, and consumer behavior studies. Primary research would consist of online surveys and focus groups with parents of young children. These methods would provide both measurable data and personal opinions that could help Apple decide whether the product should move forward.
The research would also examine competing child GPS trackers and wearable devices by comparing their pricing, features, strengths, weaknesses, and customer satisfaction. In addition, I would evaluate external factors such as privacy regulations, advances in wearable technology, economic conditions, and parents’ growing concerns about digital privacy.
Overall, I believe the Apple Baby Band fits naturally within Apple’s brand. It combines technology, health, and safety into a product that solves a real problem for parents. If it can survive being covered in applesauce, thrown across the living room, and somehow ending up in the dog’s water bowl, I’d say Apple has another hit on its hands. As both a consumer and a parent, this is a product I would genuinely be excited to see on the market, which is why I chose it for my project.
